One community member called it "a Uni lecture I never got but really wanted."

The program offers a brief history of digital media, a quick summary of the sampling theorem, and myriad details of low level audio and video characterization and formatting. It's intended for budding geeks looking to get into video coding, as well as the technically curious who want to know more about the media they wrangle for work or play.

Demonstrations of sampling, quantization, bit-depth, and dither explore digital audio behavior on real audio equipment using both modern digital analysis and vintage analog bench equipment... just in case we can't trust those newfangled digital gizmos. You can also download the source code for each demo and try it all for yourself!

--- DESCRIPTION:

Users of Serum, Phaseplant, Arturia Pigments, NI Massive X and other virtual wavetable synthesizers should be very interested in this one... And those who are into libre audio software should rejoice, as a state-of-the art wavetable synthesizer is coming their way.

Let me introduce you to Vital.

As of the time I'm uploading this video, Vital is still in closed beta, so check it's website to see if it's already out, so you can make some music with it.

"Bodacious" is a drum&bass track I've produced for a competition, that was voted 1st place.

This is a low-effort video series where I show you my raw process behind his track. It was captured as I went and now that the competition is over - I'm publishing it.

In this short video I sum up the whole series and show you what I did for mastering.

This is the last part of the actual composition and mixing. What is left after this is just mastering!

At 17:24 you can see I'm adding a TAP Pink/Fractal Noise plug-in - I removed that later, as it was against the rules to use it.

It's starting to become harder and harder fro me to describe what I'm doing in these videos - as it's really too much things to just sum up in one sentence. There's lots of tweaking things, adding small detail, fixing problems etc.

BTW: Sorry for the audio-video sync issues - I also realized the face camera is missing from one point onwards, but it's really not the most important thing, so I decided to let it go. I don't think this series is going to be too popular anyway.

In this video I'm fixing a musical key clashing between different parts, I discover that reese bass patches can be used as effective lead sounds too. I do a lot of copy-pasting and shifting around of parts to arrange a more complete track. I also synthesize a crash cymbal with Oxe FM Synth, and do many many more things...

In this video I use Dexed to add a lower-layer to my kick, making it fatter. I also play with the arrangement (moving and copying automation data is always a bit tricky in Ardour 5)

In this video I'm starting my work on a bass sound. I also make a supersaw-ish lead. Unfortunately the video capture crashed , and I have only audio for that part. You can skip that, but I thought it's better to keep it in, instead of skipping that part all together. That's what you get for recording in one take :)

"Bodacious" is a drum&bass track I've produced for a competition, that was voted 1st place.

In this video I'm starting a low-effort video series where I show you how I made the drum&bass track that has won me a MOD Duo. I have captured the whole process on video, so you can see the journey from an empty Ardour session - to winning the Open Source Music FM Synthesizer Challenge!

The creative work took place between 2018-09-19 and 2018-10-13. I made that track in 7 days, though the workload was by no means distributed uniformly (most work was done on the last day).

During the first day I've decided I'll go with drum&bass, programmed some drum sequences and worked on synthesizing the drums. it was very difficult, because the Oxe FM Synth doesn't seem to feature a pitch envelope.

I'm talking about a pretty new free and open-source plug-in created by Patrick Desaulniers called Wolf Shaper. It's currently available for Linux and Windows.

Wolf Shaper is a flexible waveshaper where you can design your own distortion functions. In this video I talk about all the functions of the plug-in, aiding myself with an oscilloscope to better illustrate what is going on.

I'm planning for 2 more videos about Wolf Shaper after this one.

PS: I've designed the Wolf logo: https://is.gd/2XfMee

I'm guiding you through the process of installing Ardour and Zyn-Fusion for free using KX Studio repositories. There's much confusion around this topic, as the software is open-source but the official binary packages are not available free of charge. This videos should answer all questions you might have regarding this topic, and show you how to get both Ardour and Zyn-Fusion installed in your system free of charge in a simple 3-step process.

As a bonus I'm including Ardour 5 session for the background music, you'll obviously need to follow this tutorials in order to be able to lead that in, but you'll also need more plugins installed.

Even though you can get these programs for free, please consider supporting the developers if you find these tools useful. Even tiny donations can go a long way if many people send them. I myself donate money to open-source projects I use to encourage the developers to keep up their great work (Ardour, Zyn-Fusion, Kdenlive...)

Also - I am getting married in 2^3 days. So if you're a christian - me and my fiancée will be very thankful for your prayer. Please remain patient - I have tons of ideas for videos, but there's going to be a pause now. I am very glad I was able to finish and release this video before the wedding. I hope it was worth the wait :)

I'm talking about sound design using allpass filtering and distortion.
How it works - why it works and what it sounds like.

I'm using only open-source software: Ardour (DAW) and Zyn-Fusion (synthesizer) under Linux Mint operating system.

I use my track "Sincerely" from my album "Suppressed" to show how it changed and developed over 22 versions I have saved on my disk.

https://unfa.creator-spring.com/listing/u-proprietary-b

To really spread the freedom, we need to be kind.

There's a nice chunk of wood close to where I live. And my community has given me ideas to make a "Luke Smith type" video.

I was pondering that idea, and one day before me and my wife went for a stroll - I came with an idea for a short skit.

I presented it to my wife, and she came up with a response to the initial question, which has provided a nice punchline for the whole thing. It also makes the final line feel much more earned and meaningful, providing a climax to this surreal forest adventure.

In case you are confused - this video is a joke.
I personally use Manajro on all of my machines daily, as I find it excellent. I've also managed to install Arch Linux on a tablet recently thanks to their new installation script. I am extremely grateful for all the hard work that developers and users put into bringing us all a truly liberating computing experience.

UPDATE: I have switched to Arch Linux on my main studio machine. Lol.

However... I think we as Linux users and free software enthusiasts sometimes get a bit arrogant in relation to people who use non-free operating systems. Sure, let's help them reclaim their freedom, but let's not be nasty about it!

With that being said - enjoy!

Also - I usually make video tutorials about audio production on Linux, but I figured - sometimes it'll be good to spice things up a bit. And who knows - maybe a lot of new people will discover their passion for music or sound design using free software thanks to this silly video?

Take care, and be kind!

I liked the song, I grabbed the FL Studio project, converted it to LMMS using DawVert, exported it to MIDI, imported to Ardour and did my thing.

This artistic work is a product of genuine human creativity.
My blood, sweat and open-source tears are here to be tasted by all, forever.
Machine learning had no part in any of what you've just experienced.
= a computer is awesome, but an artist it ain't =
Art is a kind of human communication that transcends space and time.
It's not the end product that matters, it's who, why and how made it.
if you insist on automating absolutely everything, automate the boring stuff!
And then maybe buy my album. I might make anotehr one if I can pay the bills. Also don't pollute (the web)!

Yes, I have typ(o)ed every single character that you just read.

And the FS is bad
I need to recover
But I'm out of spares

I've got a bad sector
I've gotta bad sector

I have neglected my backup so
When the failure came I was unprepared
The trouble has hit me in my worst time
And I don't know if I can get my files back, oh!

I've got a bad sector
And my backup is down
I've trashed all my data
And I'm out of spares

I'm down to one copy
And the FS is bad
I need to recover
But I'm out of spares
